Bioretention Cell and Mandala Wayfinding Exhibits

A group reads the bioretention cell wayside exhibit

There are two wayside exhibits on the Courthouse Square: one for the Bioretention Cell at the corner of S. Sterling St. and E. Meeting St., and another for the Morganton Community Mandala int he center of the square. The wayside exhibits provide more details about these particular features of the square. A bioretention cell, or rain garden, is a landscaped depression or dip in the Earth’s surface that captures and treats storm water runoff by removing a wide range of pollutants, such as tiny solid particles that remain suspended in water, nutrients, metals, hydrocarbons (like those found in automotive emissions and tire particles) and bacteria from storm water runoff. The plant materials also help in capturing and treating the runoff. The community mandala is an art exhibit that represents all of our community. You can read more details about the mandala by visiting this link: https://www.morgantonnc.gov/city-manager/page/morganton-community-mandala.
