Art crawls lined up for 2024 season

There are more than pansies popping up and lace bark elms in bloom in Downtown Morganton this April! A colorful array of umbrellas may have already caught your eye topping the Toasted and Rolled alleyway. This year’s first among five themed Third Thursday Art Crawl’s is called “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” It includes art installations with visual flair of umbrellas and flowers enhancing the alleyway, courthouse square, entranceways and window displays in Downtown Morganton.

 On April 18th from 4-7:30pm come stroll through downtown for the first art crawl of the 2024 season. This month’s art crawl theme is dedicated to bringing the viewer an art experience through poetry, umbrella installations and live floral, paper and silk installations. Multiple locations will have beautiful installations to view. Participants can walk to different locations in the downtown district at their leisure to experience the magic of Third Thursday Art Crawl.

The following locations will be a part of the Art Crawl:

  • Benjamin’s and Libba’s (Outside Only) (Floral Installation by Thistle & Twig Flowers)
  • Toasted and Rolled Alleyway (Installation by City of Morganton Electric Department)
  • Alexander Brooke Boutique (Installation by Garden Gate Floral & Events)
  • Aqua B Boutique (Art By Lauren Holston)
  • Morganton General Store (Art By Rhonda Hamrick)
  • Pete Wallace & Molly McKay window (Art by Toss)
  • Historic Courthouse Square (Installation by Michael Berley)

Cultural and Creative Development Director Sharon Jablonski said, “I am excited to see us bring back a series of art crawls that have themes and different interactive activities. This is a great way to walk through downtown and experience Morganton in a different fashion. We hope you join us every month for a nice evening out!”

Save the date for the Third Thursday Art Crawls May – June and August – October. Each month will feature a different theme May 16th will be Visual Art, June 20th will be Wine & Food, August 15th will be Visual Art, September 19th will be Live Music and October 17th will feature food, art, wine, and music.

Whimsical umbrella installations and floral designs sweep through downtown window storefront displays and landmarks to prove once and for all April showers do in fact bring May flowers!
