During two weekends this fall learn about Morganton’s spooky history and enjoy our quaint downtown district!  The Morganton Ghost Walk was researched by local paranormal investigator Joshua P. Warren who documented creepy events, spooky stories and some bizarre history.  The hour-long, scenic tour tells of local history, strange sightings and folklore during a mile and a half walking tour of historic downtown Morganton.  Some stories date back 500 years!

Oyster and Shrimp Festival

When: Saturday, October 28, 2017    1-8pm

This will mark the 16th Annual October Oyster and Shrimp Festival, an annual fundraiser for the Burke Arts Council. The event will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017 on the Old Court House Square and the Burke Arts Council property at 115 E Meeting Street in Downtown Morganton. The event begins at 1pm and goes until 8pm. PLEASE – NO PETS !! Admission to the event is free. The food and drink is available for purchase.

Halloween Spooktacular

When: Tuesday, October 31, 2017   3:00-6:00pm

Calling all goblins, vampires, super heroes, princesses and gypsies and everything in between! Come to Downtown Morganton Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, and enjoy the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treating and Halloween Spooktacular! We'll have trick-or-treating at downtown businesses from 3-5pm. When the trick-or-treaters have collected their candy, they can head to the Historic Burke County Courthouse lawn from 3:00pm until 6:00pm for a costume contest, inflatable fun provided by Summit Community Church, and plenty of free games and activities (compliments of the City of Morganton Recreation Department)!

The Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5:30pm with music and to the delight of all, at 6:00pm, downtown Morganton will light up for the season.

Winter Carnival

Join downtown Morganton on the Saturday before Thanksgiving for a holiday celebration for the entire family! Come out to the Courthouse Square at 5:30pm for the Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony and then stick around until 8pm for the Winter Carnival. From 5-8pm the Courthouse Square will transform into the North Pole!

Activities like face painting, Snowman Bean Bag Toss, and Letters to Santa will be setup for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy a FREE relaxing Carriage Ride through town before heading to see SANTA! The jolly man will be hanging around waiting to hear what all of the GOOD little boys and girls are hoping for this holiday season. After seeing Santa, sit around the bonfire with your treats from Frosty's Diner!

Please join the Morganton Downtown Development Association as they present the Downtown Morganton Christmas Parade! Each year there are over 100 entries in the parade. This includes floats, marching bands as well as characters of all shapes and sizes to greet the younger viewers. The excitement of the parade and the Christmas season is contagious!
