Downtown Distinguished Awards

You are invited to the Inaugural Downtown Development Association's Distinguished Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 4th from 5:00-6:30pm at the Morganton Community House. Enjoy a light refreshments along with beer and wine and socializing.

The DDA Distinguished Awards recognizes DDA Member Businesses that have excelled over the past year (July 2018 to June 2019). Come support your fellow downtown Morganton businesses during this event. State of Origin is a boutique craft brew festival focusing on local breweries embracing North Carolina flora and fauna in the creation of craft beer. Every brewery must bring craft beer that was created using ingredients grown in North Carolina.

M.A.D.E. Competition

Friday and Saturday, September 6-7

The 2018 M.A.D.E. (Morganton Arts Design and Engineering) Competition brought together seven Burke County Middle and High Schools to go head to head in the Eco Chair Challenge. The Historic Morganton Festival, Inc. along with Burke County Public Schools is proud to announce the 2019 M.A.D.E. Challenge. During Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th; area Middle and High School students will compete in the “Junkyard Design Challenge”, an on site engineering and design challenge during the Morganton Festival in downtown Morganton.

Warren who documented creepy events, spooky stories and some bizarre history.  The 1.5 hour-long, scenic tour tells of local history, strange sightings and folklore during a mile and a half walking tour of historic downtown Morganton.  Some stories date back 500 years!

The Annual October Oyster and Shrimp Festival, an annual fundraiser for the Burke Arts Council, will take place on Saturday, October 19th on the Old Court House Square and the Burke Arts Council property at 115 E Meeting Street in Downtown Morganton. The event begins at noon and goes until 7pm. PLEASE – NO PETS !! Admission to the event is free. The food and drink is available for purchase.

Calling all goblins, vampires, super heroes, princesses and gypsies and everything in between! Come to Downtown Morganton Thursday, Oct. 31, and enjoy the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treating and Halloween Spooktacular! We'll have trick-or-treating at downtown businesses from 3-5pm. When the trick-or-treaters have collected their candy, they can head to the Historic Burke County Courthouse lawn from 3:00pm until 6:00pm for a costume contest, inflatable fun provided by Summit Community Church, and plenty of free games and activities (compliments of the City of Morganton Recreation Department)!

Join downtown Morganton on the Saturday before Thanksgiving for a holiday celebration for the entire family! Come out to the Courthouse Square at 5:30pm for the Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony and then stick around until 8pm for the Winter Carnival. From 5-8pm the Courthouse Square will transform into the North Pole!

Activities like face painting, Snowman Bean Bag Toss, and Letters to Santa will be setup for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy a FREE relaxing Carriage Ride through town before heading to see SANTA! The jolly man will be hanging around waiting to hear what all of the GOOD little boys and girls are hoping for this holiday season. After seeing Santa, sit around the bonfire with your treats from Frosty's Diner!
